CATHERINE JONES DAVIES
'My paintings are reactions to what I see and feel; they are experiences that have been abstracted and reconstructed. I try to paint not so much how things look as how they feel.' “Exploring the associative and abstract possibilities of faces and the figure has been an exciting process. The combinations of color, shape and texture, anchored by these reference points, have a different quality than those inspired by my ongoing fascination with the landscapes that surround me on the farm. The faces and the figures are an extension, and like the fields, each evocative in it’s own way.
While currently residing on a farm in Anamosa, Iowa, Jones-Davies is a South Dakota native who lived in Germany from 1978 through 1993. During that time, she taught art and traveled extensively in Europe, Nepal, Egypt and the United States. She is represented by galleries and in collections both in the Midwest as well as in Europe.
